Little Guy Making Mama Smile

Our Favorite Salad
This salad is one that my family regularly enjoys with our dinners. It is simple, but very satisfying.
To build this salad:
2 diced tomatoes
1 handful of flat-leaf Italian parsley
2 chopped avocados
2 Persian cucumbers (if this is variety is not available, feel free to use whatever kind of cucumber you like)
1 or 2 green onions
fresh juice from half a lemon
drizzle olive oil
salt and pepper to taste
green olives as garnish, or any garnish you choose.
Sometimes we add a little bit of canned tuna, but that is optional.

I chose my husband's work jeans to test this product. If these were a new pair of jeans, then I would wash them separately or with like colors. However, the pair I wanted to put this product to the test, so I selected jeans that have been thoroughly tortured.

After washing my clothes, I hang them out
on a clothesline to dry. Excuse the clutter, that's the utilitarian

Here are the results!
Considering how much these jeans have been through, I was pleased that they were clean, and were free of any odors they have accumulated. Besides, they look better to me, with less wrinkles or that harsh, stiff look. Woolite® Extra Dark Care helps keep your favorite pair of work jeans around a little longer. I think it would be interesting to use this formula several times on a brand new pair of jeans to see how they fare after being washed so many times.

Since I have clothes that are very long, I was looking for a piece of jewelry that would match my whole wardrobe, and not get lost in what I'm wearing. Review: Smooth 'N Shine Polishing Keratin Power
Some time ago, I was given a box of Sleek N Shine Polishing Keratin Power product to test. While it is not a hair relaxer, it is meant to help tame and straighten the hair. However, due to time constraints, I enlisted the help of my sister Jenn to help me out. Overall, both of us the company behind this product is exceptional, but there is room for improvement with this particular product. Here is a picture of her before the treatment:
When Jenn first applied the product to her hair, she did not care for the smell. Other household members found the odor to be far too strong. After she had followed the instructions, she did notice an improvement in the texture of her hair, but the results did not last as long as expected. This is a picture of Jenn after treatment:
To be fair, the humidity where we are is pretty bad, so that may have contributed to the less-than-optimum results. The treatment did not last long enough for my sister to capture a good picture of it, although she blow-dried her hair afterwards. This is something for research and development to keep in mind when coming up with new product ideas. It is a good concept, but its effectiveness should be thoroughly tested before marketing it.

A Reunion and Introduction
Normally I can be found in close proximity to my computer. My blog keeps me busy, as does my page on Facebook, as well as my numerous social networking accounts. However, something occurred during the past two days that required my undivided attention. This week I became an aunt for the first time, and I wanted to be there for my sister and her baby. I was so happy to hear a new little one been born, and was anxious to take my family to meet her.
Although I am a stickler for preparedness, my anxiety and joy took control this time and we were less prepared for this journey than we wanted to be. As we crossed state lines the difference in the landscape told us we were headed in rough territory. To make matters a little more interesting, a storm was headed in our direction. I managed to take a picture of it shortly before the rain engulfed our small car.Do you see that blackish-grey area underneath that blanket of clouds? Those are not hills, rather was the water that would soon have us struggling to stay dry.
At first, we were not concerned. We went through the heavy sheets of rain, determined to reach our destination before dark. Unfortunately this was not to be, for the car began to overheat, and then one of the tires went flat. Even after the store was shut down and the employees sent home for the day, a manager at a local retail store was kind enough to open his garage doors and let my husband use a car jack to change the tire.
After thirty-five more miles in the rain, we reached the house of my family. My parents and sisters greeted us. We shed many tears because it had been more than two years since I had been with them. Then, I was introduced to the newest member of our clan, my little niece. My youngest sister had given birth two days before we arrived. She was happy to see us, but understandably fatigued. After we got settled, my sister gave me her little bundle to hold.
She was so tiny, literally no bigger than a loaf of bread. Everything about her was perfect, even her cries of protest when she was placed in unfamiliar arms. Over the next two days I pored over my family and my new little niece. I never opened my laptop once, not even to check my email. Instead I spent two days being enveloped in the love of my family until it was time for my own small family to return home.
